SIMBALAY FESTIVAL: A BOUNTIFUL HARVEST

December is a month where lights are sparkling along the streets, where lanterns are hanging outside in every window, where people were captivated by the thoughts of Christmas. Simbalay Festival also happens to be in December; it is celebrated every year to express gratitude for the bountiful harvest. People of Nabunturan celebrate Simbalay Festival by building up ‘bahay kubos’ filled with the fruitful harvest from their own barangays. As I was strolling in the street- where they displayed all the bahay kubos- I was amazed at how Nabunturanons celebrate and value the culture and tradition of Nabunturan. I have seen joyful smiles as they watch every light and bahay kubos they passed by.

Simbalay Festival is another way of promoting tourism in Nabunturan; showcasing the culture, tradition, and food in different barangays of Nabunturan. Showing how productive, abundant our homeland is and how many blessings we got every year.

  1. Nabunturanons should also learn how to take care of our abundant lands.
